SportRenfrewshire
- local sports council with an international reputation…
DGI, the Danish
Sports Association, instigated a Youth Project to engage with
Youth as well as study grassroots sport in other European Countries.
This education project is a co-operation between the two DGI regions
of East Jutland and Copenhagen.
Participants
are 18-28 years old, and number 12-20 people from each of the
two regions. The project comprised a start up evening (separate
in the two regions), two full weekends together, one in each region
- and one weekend abroad, where their new skills are put into
play together with youth from another country. The DGI Youth Group
had as part one of this initiative travelled to Germany to engage
with other organisations and German youth.
Part two was
being planned and when balloted to decide what country to visit
next the result was Scotland. Such an undertaking had never been
planned between the two nations. The question for DGI was whom
do they contact to put together and facilitate such an event?
Being aware
of SportRenfrewshires international reputation, Jacob Schouenborg,
Secretary General of the International Sport And Cultural Association
(ISCA), did not hesitate to recommend SportRenfrewshire.
Jacob
in his first contact with Chairman Ian Lynchahon asked, "I
am part of a DGI planning group that has conceived a DGI youth
leader education programme, focused on leadership communication
and intercultural understanding. The first edition was well received.
And the foreign location was Berlin.
Now we want to do the second edition. And I would like to ask
you if you think that you could be interested in hosting the group
and hooking them up with youth from your side in their "international
weekend". It is expected to be the weekend 16-18 January
2009". Jacob went on to say " We are very much looking
forward to working with you again and have no doubts about your
ability to organise this event"
SportRenfrewshire
answered the call and organised, facilitated and hosted this hugely
successful first ever convention of its kind. Some 26 Youth from
Denmark and Scotland took part in the convention and weekend of
activities. SALSC gave the convention its' official recognition,
blessing and participation.

Another hugely
successful event facilitated by SportRenfrewshire, but this would
not have happened without the support of many people…

and taking care of the mixed Scottish and Danish group. Certainly
a venue to be recommended.
