GO Ciaran!
- Ciaran makes National Karting Finals
SportRenfrewshire
member Ciaran Haggerty is on cloud nine after making it to the
finals of the National
Karting Association Championship 2009.
His challenge
started back in August when he qualified for the pre quarter final
stage of the competition by putting in some hot laps at Scotkart,
Cambuslang. Ciaran qualified to take part in the
Quarter
Final Round that took place at the same circuit in September where
he finished first that put him through to compete in the semi
finals at
Knockhill Racing Circuit earlier this month where he finished
a close second which was enough to claim his place in the finals
to be held at Daytona Milton Keynes on 8th November.
Ciaran,
a Johnstone High School pupil, has been karting in his spare time
for nearly three years
and is a member of the West
of Scotland Kart Club. He has relied on the support of family
and friends during this time but was fortunate to attract sponsorship
from local company, CRW
Interiors, enabling him to compete in the sport he is so passionate
about. His ambition is to turn his hobby into a career emulating
the success that has been achieved by his heroes…watch this

Meet Renfrewshires
own up and coming Lewis Hamilton ...
During
the day Ciaran Haggerty is a 13 year old a pupil of Johnstone
High School, but in his spare time he is working towards being
Renfrewshires' future Lewis Hamilton.
Ciaran began
karting in January 2007 at a local indoor circuit but it was not
long before he progressed to the outdoor circuits where later
in 2007 he passed the Association of Racing Kart Schools Driving
Test. He then successfully applied to the Motor Sport Association
for a National Kart License that enables him to compete in organised
events and by the end of 2007 Ciaran had his very own Kart.
In
2008 he joined top karting outfit the West of Scotland Kart Club
and began his race career with them in February 2008. His potential
was quickly noticed and thanks to sponsorship from Johnstone based
CRW
Interiors, Ciaran went on to win four major trophies during
the 2008 season.
So
far 2009 has been a great year for Renfrewshire’s own up
and coming Lewis Hamilton. Like many of todays top drivers the
Formula 1 world champion began his motor racing career in karting
. Season 2009 heralded Ciaran's move from Cadet to Junior Class
when he has raced monthly in club and regional events as far afield
as North Wales. At the National Karting Association Championships
in August Ciaran achieved the second fastest lap time, finishing
overall first to qualify for this months semi finals at Knockhill
Racing Circuit.
Ciaran hopes
to reach the National Karting Association finals and gain the
experience of competing on new race tracks, gain more sponsorship
to maintain his progress while hopefully losing rarely but winning
often.
