SportRenfrewshire annual John Gibb Tournament
SportRenfrewshire’s annual John Gibb football tournament was held at the Neilston Junior’s Brig-O-Lee stadium on Sunday 28th August. This year’s tournament brought a change to the traditional format with the entire competition taking place on the one day. Thankfully, the weather stayed fair on the day and the new format was thought by all the participants and spectators to be a great success.
The new format saw teams from Barrhead, Eastwood, Erskine and Neilston play 6 first round games on a “round robin” basis, followed by play-offs for 3rd and 4th and ultimately the Final which was won by Erskine after a penalty shoot-out.
Afterwards, all teams attended the presentations and buffet in Nicols pub.
SportRenfrewshire would like to thank Hamish McLean Trophies who sponsored the tournament and donated the prizes and Nicol’s for the post tournament hospitality. Our thanks also go to Mark Dailry who refereed all the games and our own Joe Reilly who captured the action on camera.
