SportRenfrewshire Junior Bowls Initiative already demonstrates
its worth...
The
recently launched SportRenfrewshire Junior Bowls Initiative, already
demonstrates the quality of the initiative and our young sports
people at the SALSC National Junior Bowls Championships.
In the recent
Scottish Association of Local Sports Councils (SALSC) National
Junior Bowls Championships held at Blackland Bowling Club Kilwinning
and hosted by North Ayrshire Sports Council, the two SportRenfrewshire
teams competed with teams from all over Scotland.
SportRenfrewshire
would like to thank JW Goudie of
Paisley for their kind support and sponsorship
of the SportRenfrewshire teams.

SportRenfrewshire
and our partners were delighted by the turn out of Juniors’
both male and female who attended the recent Junior Bowls session
at Ralston Bowling Club. The youngsters had a great days Bowling
in the sunshine and also got top class
coaching
tips from Scottish Bowling Association Coaches.
Ralston Bowling
Club gave the courtesy of the Club and one of their championship
greens over to SportRenfrewshire so the day could go ahead. Bowls
were also supplied and the Dress code was suspended for the day
as can be seen in the photographs.
Jim McIntosh,
area supervisor of the Scottish Bowling Association, was very
pleased by the turn out that introduced youngsters to the game
and praised the standard of play as well as the sportsmanship
of those who took part.
The initiative
saw young curlers from Braehead and Greenacres try out the sport.
Several curlers
wanted to know how to get further involved in the sport of Bowls.
The good news
is that those wishing to take up the sport should contact SportRenfrewshire's Billy Hassan or Ian
Lynchahon via email by clicking on their name or call 077425
49580 for details.
Part
two of this initiative will take place in September 2009 when
youngsters will be invited to come along to a “Taste and
Try” Curling Day. Where top Curling Coaches will be on hand
and like the bowls will be FREE to those taking
part.
The plan being that Juniors can bowl in summer and curl in winter.
Renfrewshire
has produced some world class players in these two sports in the
past, and with the SportRenfrewshire Junior Bowls / Junior Curling
Initiative it is hoped to encourage more to take up these sports
and continue to produce world class players as well as ensure
more of our young people take up a physical activity while having
lots of fun.
